A terrain category denines the characteristics of those surface irregularities of an area that arises from the natural or constructed features and that creates a surface roughness affecting the degree of turbulence and the variation of speed with height of the wind passing over the area. In selecting a terrain category take into account the permanence of the features constituting the surface roughness and distance over which the terrain unchanged.
